Dynamics Capacity managment
Description
Some environment actions cannot be done if we run out of capacity on Dynamics (copy, restore, manual backup).
Running out of capacity does not stop normal user actions/migrations, we can still add/update/delete data, capacity is across all environments and is not environment specific.
There is 3 types of storage
- Database – this is the core database and is the most expensive per GB
- Log – this is of medium cost an and stores the history of changes (typically on non-live environments, we only keep 30 days to keep the cost down)
- File – This is the cheapest and stores files for Dyanmics.
Process
To check the status of capacity, go to the link below
https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/resources/capacity
This show the storage in use by type and across environments.
In this example, we can see we are 50GB short on database and 70GB short on File storage, but have over 150GB free on Log.
To change storage, someone with permission to the Bytes portal can add/remove capacity.
Capacity types to buy
Once amended, typically within 5 mins, the capacity will have been added.
High log usage
If Log usage is high, check the Dataverse tab and order by Log usage, in reality, only Production should have high usage, the remaining should be a few GB at most as the lost should only be set to keep at 1 month at most, if they are high, raise with the Keys team to reduce them.
